Emergency Call Operators are the first people that 999 callers speak to when they request an Ambulance. They play a vital role in the team effort required to provide a high quality service to customers in need of emergency medical assistance.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides Emergency Medical Services across Kent, Surrey, Sussex and North East Hampshire, handling 500,000 999 calls each year. The Trust is currently looking to recruit emergency call operators for the Lewes Emergency Dispatch Centre.

If you are successful you will be responsible for the receipt and management of incoming requests for 999, urgent and non-urgent ambulance transport, and also for routine enquiries. You will also operate all IT and communication equipment associated with the call handling and dispatch functions of the Emergency Dispatch Centre. Future progression to EMD – Dispatcher, will be available for individuals that demonstrate the necessary skills and aptitude.

Excellent communication skills are essential together with accurate keyboard skills and an ability to work under pressure, whilst dealing with callers in a distressed state. Minimum educational requirements are 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent, to include English. No previous experience is required as full training will be given.

LOCATION: Lewes

SALARY: Band 3 – (£14,437 - £17,257) + Unsocial Hours (max. 25%)

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week on rotating shift pattern. Some part-time opportunities on rotating shift available.
